2. causing an obsession.
3. excessive, esp. extremely so.

re.pul.sive ri-puhl-siv]

2. capable of causing repulsion; serving to repulse: to present enough repulsive force to keep the enemy from daring to attack.

Guest curated by Ryan Bubnis, Obsessive Repulsive brings together the work of Skinner, Jesse Reno and Ryan Bubnis. Obsessive and prolific in their art making this trios work shares a love for primal mark making. They build their pieces up with multiple layers, varying textures and line work to create complex compositions that the viewer must digest slowly.

"Jesse and Skinner are two rad dudes and two of my favorite image-makers. I've wanted to do this show for a long time. Both of these guys are dedicated to their craft and are in it for the long haul. I'm stoked to show along side of them." Says guest curator Bubnis.

Artist Information:

Skinner
Skinner is a self-taught artist from Sacramento, California who has meticulously crafted a balance of extraordinary mural work, mighty powerful wall to wall installations and a prolific commercial career. Influenced by 80's pop culture, early skateboarding scenes, dungeons and dragons and the heavy metal gods, Skinner's mind is one full of mayhem fueled by a calculated chaos.

His work has been shown all over the Universe at places like the Design Museum in Breta Netherlands, Italy, Germany, France, Japan, Russia, Belgium, Scotland, Texas , San Francisco, LA , Oregon and New York. Skinner's work has made known in various publications including Juxtapoz, Hi Fructose and Beautiful/Decay.

Skinner on his work for "Obsessive Repulsive"
"The paintings I did for this show are inspired by record covers from decades ago when music and design told a mythic tale that unfolded differently for each person.. I did four paintings with my customary level of detail and color use but did them in the shape of a record and with the intention of making really bitchin' album covers... I also did three screen print pieces that I painted into with no expectations and under a totally experimental condition... They were really fun and are within the realm of my usual madness but with a more kinetic movement influenced energy. These pieces I did for this show have been amazing and really fun to make!!!"

Jesse Reno
On work for "Obsessive Repulsive"
In the latest series of paintings by Portland-based artist Jesse Reno, shamanic beings struggle to find their place in a world simultaneously on the verge of expanding and collapsing. Totem animals and Native American figures reverberate memories of people who once lived as one with nature.

Marked by symbols, these figures seek their dreams in the growth of trees and the passing of spirits. on a quest to find their true selves, they collect feathers and relics left by past encounters and past lives. They learn to transcend the boundaries of the rational world evolving into a collage of what they have become and encountered. In this body of work, Reno presents us with a journey leading inward to ultimately expand outward:
"If you have moved wisely your dreams will still grow when you are gone." -Jesse Reno
