Flatcolor Gallery is proud to presents A Solo Exhibition of new works from Joe Vollan on Thursday, September 2nd, 2010 from 5-9pm.
|
Opening Reception: September 2nd 5-9PM (Artists will be in attendance)
In September, Seattle artist Joe Vollan will be exhibiting a new series of paintings featuring his signature style of surreal, steam-punk landscapes inhabited by skeletal figures, animals and robots.
Joe's images, seemingly bizarre snapshots of a forgotten cartoon or fairy tale, engage the viewer through iconic characters, bright colors, unexpected details and juxtapositions. Steam-punk airships hover as a skeletal rickshaw driver takes a shortcut through a forgotten cemetery lit by the lamplight of mechanical birds. Each composition provides a scene that is at once dark and whimsical.
A local favorite, Joe has shown extensively throughout Seattle and has previously shown at Flatcolor, Roq La Rue, BLVD, Gallery fifty24SEA, as well as nationally at Alpha Cult and, Copro Nason Gallery.
About Joe Vollan:
A mild mannered and modest person himself, Joe Vollan speaks loudly and passionately through his art. Joe develops eccentric pop surrealist images which reveal his own insights into inspiration and harrowing tales. The heart of his work evokes emotion through senses of wonderment as it pertains to the fantastic and bizarre world he creates. Joe has become highly respected and recognized around Seattle for his distinctly mysterious works of art. Having shown in all of the top galleries in the area from Roq La Rue, Flatcolor Gallery, BLVD, Schmancy, Ouch My Eye and more, he has now begun showing down the west coast as far as Alpha Cult in Los Angeles.
